In this course, we explore the possibilities of an ecological life in philosophy and art as a way of co-existence, critique and creativity on this damaged planet. We will navigate through diverse themes that might embody a new way of thinking and living the ecological life, such as dark geographies in the Nomos and Nomads of the Earth, multispecies storytelling and interpenetration, the relationship between technology and chaosmos, modes of slowness and loafing, subversive joy, and forests as the shadow and the unconscious of civilisation. We will also make small practical exercises between classes in the art of observing our surroundings. The course will approach subversive philosophers of modernity ((Deleuze/Guattari, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Schmitt), creative ecofeminists (Haraway, Tsing, Bennett), poets (Joyce, Pessoa, Drummond de Andrade, JR Rosa), and musicians (John Cage, Caetano Veloso, The Loafing Heroes), where we will explore paths towards a new and vibrant radical cosmopolitanism. Bearing in mind the turbulent times and unprecedented challenges we are experiencing, the guiding question of the course will be, not Hamlet’s famous “to be or not to be”, but “are you flourishing?”

Neste curso, exploraremos as possibilidades de uma vida ecológica na filosofia e na arte como uma forma de coexistência, crítica e criativa, neste planeta danificado. Navegaremos por diversos temas que podem incorporar uma nova forma de pensar e viver a vida ecológica, como as geografias escuras no nomos e nômades da Terra, narrativas multiespécies, a relação entre tecnologia e Caosmos, a lentidão, a alegria subversiva e as florestas como sombra e inconsciente da civilização. Faremos também pequenos exercícios práticos entre as aulas sobre a arte de observar à nossa volta. O curso abordará filósofos subversivos da modernidade (Deleuze/Guattari, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Schmitt), eco-feministas criativas (Haraway, Tsing, Bennett), poetas (Joyce, Pessoa, Drummond de Andrade, JR Rosa), e músicos (John Cage, Caetano Veloso, The Loafing Heroes), com os quais perscrutaremos os caminhos para um cosmopolitismo radical novo e vibrante. Tendo em conta os tempos conturbados e os desafios inéditos que vivemos, a questão orientadora do curso será, não a famosa ‘to be or not to be’ (‘ser ou não ser’) de Hamlet, mas ‘are you flourishing?’ ‘(você está florescendo?’).
